President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today met with members of the South Huvadhu Atoll Council.

At the meeting held this afternoon at the President’s Office, council members briefed the President on the concerns of the atoll’s residents, as well as their aspirations for the future.

In this regard, council members spoke on their development agenda designed for the South Huvadhu Atoll. Councilors also highlighted the challenges being faced by the people, and means to grow revenue and bring about development in all areas.

Discussions were also held on ways to increase the role of the local councils within the governance system, and ways to further strengthen the decentralized system of governance.

Speaking at the meeting, President Solih noted that the administration continues to empower the local councils by transferring powers and responsibilities that are within their mandate, previously held by the government. He also stated that his administration aims to serve in the closest proximity to the people.

Further, the President highlighted the government’s development masterplan. He noted that the respective ministries were continuously working on completing all ongoing development projects.
