President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today sent a message of sympathy to President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka, following the multiple explosions that occurred in Sri Lanka today.

President Solih’s message reads as follows:

“The Government and people of Maldives join me in expressing a deep sense of sadness and shock upon learning of the explosions that occurred in Sri Lanka this morning.”

“We grieve for those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to those have been injured as a result of this cowardly act. Many Maldivians call Sri Lanka their second home. We not only mourn with our Sri Lankan cousins, but share their hurt and stand in firm solidarity with them.”

“These explosions were clearly deliberate and coordinated acts of malice, targeting peaceful worshippers on what should have been a day of joy and festivities, involving celebrations with friends, family and other members of their religious community.”

“The Maldives adds our voice to that of the region and of the world at large condemning these acts of terror. We stand ready to do all that we can to assist Sri Lanka in its hour of grief.”
