President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that being an Islamic nation, the most important obligation for the Maldivian people is guarding our Islamic faith, rather than putting forth individual civil rights. The President made this remark while speaking at the function organized by the Progressive Party of the Maldives, in Nilandhoo Island of North Nilandhe Atoll, as part of his current visit to some islands of the atoll.

While addressing tonight's gathering, the President stated that we must not welcome efforts to allow foreign parties to meddle in our internal affairs, and that there was no need to seek out foreign involvement to get better prospects for our own people. Continuing on, he called upon everyone to put forth our national responsibility to maintain peace and prosperity in our nation. 

In his speech, President Yameen highlighted the mega development projects carried out in the country. The President further noted that the current administration had carried out land reclamation projects that equals to 20 new medium-sized islands, within the five-year term. He also briefed that strategies behind bringing mega investments is to ensure benefits like human resource development and job opportunities for the youth.
