President Nasheed has said that no citizen would be deprived of any of their rights for criticising the government. The President made this statement while speaking at the inauguration of the decentralisation workshop for the Central Province. The workshop was held this evening in Magoodoo of North Nilandhe atoll.
Noting that there existed some major obstacles for development, the President said one such obstacle was the highly centralised system of administration and the lack of people’s participation in governance.
Speaking further, the President said with decentralisation of administration many local-level economic and development related decisions will be taken at the regional level with increased participation of the people.
President also noted the strong spirit and determination held among the people since the past 4 years to establish a people’s government in the Maldives.
