President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has this morning launched the ‘National Strategic Plan to End T.B in Maldives’.
President Yameen launched the campaign at a ceremony held today at Hotel Jen.
The ‘National Strategic Plan to End T.B in Maldives’, compiled in collaboration with W.H.O, includes a 5-year national campaign against T.B.; of which the goal is to reduce TB incidence rate by 50%, and TB deaths by 75% by year 2022, in comparison to 2017.
In 2016, the Maldives had notified 169 cases of TB, which is the top infectious disease killer in the world. President Yameen is the first Head of State in the South East Asia region, to launch a national level strategic plan to end TB in the country.
The Resident Representative of the World Health Organization to Maldives, Dr. Arvind Mathur, Minister of Health Mohamed Nazim Ibrahim and other Government officials were also in attendance at the ceremony.
