The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Her Excellency Juana Elena Ramos Rodriguez, presented her Letter of Credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning, at the President’s Office.
During the call, the President congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment and extended greetings and good wishes to the President of Cuba, His Excellency Raúl Modesto Castro. The President also conveyed deepest sympathy to the Government and the people of Cuba for the devastation caused by the hurricane Irma.
Furthermore, the President expressed sincere appreciation for the opportunities provided by the Government of Cuba in developing the Human Resources of Maldives, particularly in the medical sector, with hopes of cooperation in different areas, in the future.
The discussions that followed include the impact of climate change and the threat of terrorism in the contemporary world. In this regard the President conveyed his eagerness to work closely with the Government of Cuba for climate action and counter-terrorism, in the international fora, and assured that the relations between the Maldives and Cuba will be further strengthened through greater cooperation, during the tenure of the Ambassador.
The Ambassador concurred with the President and noted with confidence that the relations between the Maldives and Cuba will continue to prosper in the years ahead. The Ambassador also thanked the President, the Government and the people of Maldives, for the continued support to Cuba over the years, at the international fora.
The President was accompanied at the call by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, H.E. Mohamed Naseer and the Foreign Secretary, H.E. Ahmed Sareer.
