The Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, His Excellency Arjun Bahadar Thapa paid the farewell call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning, at the President’s Office.

During the call, the President expressed appreciation for the assistance and support rendered by His Excellency Arjun Bahadar Thapa during his tenure. The President also expressed his confidence in the potential of the existing South Asian Free Trade Area to enhance the economic and social development of the region. Furthermore, the President voiced the need for further strengthening the role of SAARC by working closely with the Member States to achieve mutually favourable outcomes and wished the Secretary General well in his future endeavours.

The President was accompanied at the farewell call by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE. Dr. Mohamed Asim and the Minister of State at the President’s Office, H.E Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
