President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim have attended the Maldives National Defence Force's Fast Interceptor Crafts commissioning ceremony marking the introduction of the new crafts to be deployed by the Coast Guard. The ceremony was held at Republic Square this evening.

During the ceremony, the First Couple inaugurated the Fast Interceptor Crafts by, after having observed a drive-by of the crafts, stepping in and inspecting one docked at Izzuddin pier.

Additionally, the President inaugurated rowing and sailing proceedings held by the Maldives National Defence Force during today’s ceremony.

The First Couple were accompanied at the ceremony by the Minister of Defence and National Security Hon. Adam Shareef Umar, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam, Members of the Cabinet and Members of the Parliament.
