President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom initiated the distribution of “Mus’haf Maldif” to Maldivians during a function held at President’s Office on Thursday morning.
To officially start distribution the first copies were presented by the President to three boys and two girls, from the Centre for Holy Quran, who were committing the Quran to memory.
The Mus’haf Maldif Project was conducted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, as part of their effort to provide each Maldivian with a copy of the Quran. The cover and page layouts are based on the stone carvings at the Friday Mosque in Malé. The Project was carried out with the assistance of state companies, NGOs, and individuals. The Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) of Jeddah, also donated to the project.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad addressed the ceremony which was also attended by senior officials at the President’s Office.
