President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has, on Tuesday evening, inaugurated the harbour at Nellaidhoo Island in South Thiladhunmathee Atoll. The President is currently on an official tour of some islands in South Thiladhunmathee Atoll, and Kanditheemu Island of North Miladhunmadulu Atoll.
While speaking at the inauguration, the President highlighted the Administration's achievements in terms of reaching development targets at rapid speeds with focus on fulfilling the needs of the citizens; the major aim being developing recreational facilities and creating jobs for the youth.
In his speech, the President highlighted that the nation's geographical makeup posed a challenge towards carrying out rapid development projects in the dispersed islands — adding that, while fulfilling all basic needs, it was vital the health sector and educational sectors be given due attention.
The President was accompanied by Minister of Environment and Energy Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad, Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Azleen Ahmed, Vice President of the Progressive Party of Maldives and Parliament Member of Fonadhoo constituency Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdullah, Parliament Member of Kelaa constituency Hon. Ali Arif and Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, at the President’s Office, Uz. Mohamed Mujuthaz.
