President Mohamed Nasheed has welcomed the Maldives national cricket team on arrival in Male’ after their victory in Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Trophy Challenge 2010 held in Thailand. The welcome ceremony was held at Jumhooree Maidhan last evening.

The Maldives cricket team won the tournament beating Saudi Arabia by one wicket in the final held in Bangkok on Saturday.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Nasheed thanked and congratulated the team for the honour and joy they have brought to the country.

The President noted that the cricket team’s victory in ACC Trophy Challenge was the country’s biggest sporting achievement.

He said the team’s success demonstrated the potential for further development of the sport in the country.

Eight teams competed in the ACC this year. Maldives was in Group B, which also included Saudi Arabia, Brunei and China.
