Vice President Abdulla Jihad, this Thursday evening, inaugurated the Islamic University of Maldives’ (IUM) Strategic Plan. The Plan that was launched consists of 21 objectives with 3 main targets in 5 categories. At tonight’s function an MOU was signed between IUM and the Islamic Forum of International Humanitarian Law (IFIHL). IUM’s main target is for more than 400 students to graduate with first degrees by the year 2020.
Speaking at the function, the Vice President stated that the Administration was working on resolving problems faced by IUM due to unavailability of sufficient space. He also added that since an Islamic University has now been established, the Administration’s target now was to make IUM a globally renowned university.
In his speech, the Vice President noted the importance given by the President in promoting Islamic Education, and thanked the President for his vision in establishing an Islamic University in the Maldives. He appealed to those directly in charge of implementing the Strategic Plan to work with passion and enthusiasm to accomplish the objectives outlined in the plan and assured full assistance from the Government to achieve the targets set out in the plan.
During the function the MOU between IUM and IFIHL was signed with the Vice Chancellor of IUM, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed representing the University while Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, the Forum’s Chairman, signed for IFIHL. A plaque of appreciation was presented to the Vice President by IFIHL.
The Vice President was accompanied at the function by the Chancellor of IUM; Dr. Mohamed Zahir Hussain, Vice Chancellor of IUM; Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Deputy Chancellors of IUM, Deans of the faculties of IUM, Professors, Lecturers and Students of IUM.
