President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has declared 28th July a public holiday. With the Independence Day falling on Tuesday 26 July, public holidays on the occasion have now been extended, starting 26 July, until Thursday 28 July – work will resume on Sunday, 31 July.
