President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom stated that when one is working towards advancing the nation, they should be given space for growth and development. He said this while addressing the ceremony held to officially inaugurate the sewerage system of Hoarafushi Island, on Monday afternoon.
While speaking at the ceremony, the President stated that he believes the main responsibility of his administration is to undertake the development required so as to create prosperity.
The President further highlighted that his strategy was focused on developing the nation on par with the people and that he is not interested in politicking.
Speaking to the people of Hoarafushi, the President highlighted the Government’s development projects planned for the island. He spoke on the measures being taken to improve the general living standards of the people, and reconfirmed that the iHavan project — an integrated project designed for Ihavandhippolhu atoll, in Northern Maldives — will materialize in the near future. He also said that by the end of this project an International seaport will be built in Maldives and these projects will transform the developmental landscape of Maldives entirely.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President shed light on the fact that opposition parliamentarians stepped back from the vote for budget provisions which included finances for projects in their own constituencies. He further stated that those members should equally strive to bring development to the country especially to their islands.
Parliament Member of Meedhoo constituency and Leader of Maldives Development Alliance, Hon. Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, Minister of Environment and Energy; Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim, Parliament Member of Hoarafushi constituency Mr. Mohamed Ismail and President of Hoarafushi council Mr. Ali Arif also addressed the attendees. During the ceremony the President was awarded a plaque of appreciation on behalf of the people of Hoarafushi. Before the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Environment and Energy; Hon. Thoriq Ibrahim launched the shore protection project of Hoarafushi Island.
Members of the cabinet, members of Parliament and senior officials of the Government also attended the ceremony.
