President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that during his tenure tireless work will be put in in order to fulfill the pledges in his manifesto and to make Maldives a hospitable environment. The President stated this while addressing the attendees of the special ceremony held tonight to open ‘Tsunami Monument Park’.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President noted that the 2004 Tsunami was a calamitous disaster for all Maldivians. He also stated that the Maldivians got over this tragedy and recovered with the combined efforts of all the citizens and that all who lost their houses have now been provided shelter as of last year.
In his speech, the President said that, a healthy society can be formed by providing facilities that will give contentment to the citizens like the park that was opened tonight. He stated that the people will move towards financial security and satisfaction when the administration carries out developmental changes for the betterment of the nation. He added that it was the responsibility of the administration to provide shelter and job opportunities for the people, especially for the youth. The President also noted that one of the major difficulties faced by Male’ was the issue of garbage disposal; saying that this problem will get a permanent solution in the near future.
The President also stated that with the completion of the 25 floor building of IGMH, the hospital will become the best health service provider in the Asian region. He also revealed his hopes to find the best health service providers to operate the ‘Rehabilitative Department’ in IGMH.
While addressing the ceremony, the President appreciated and thanked the national security forces for their services during times of emergency highlighting that, within the next 12 months, housing arrangements for the officers will be made.
At the ceremony which began with a theatrical play, the President was presented with a special album showcasing the work that was carried out to develop the area he inaugurated tonight. This album was presented to the President by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
In addition to the President, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu addressed the attendees.
The President was accompanied by the First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, members of the cabinet, some members of the parliament and governmental officials.
