The new Ambassador of Algeria to the Maldives, His Excellency Hamza Yahya Sherif has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Thursday morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Hamza Yahya Sherif on the commencement of his term.
The President congratulated the Ambassador on Algeria’s recent constitutional reforms and shared some experiences of what Maldives has gone through since the country began undertaking similar reforms in 2008. “Democracy is the best system of governance”, the President said, going on to recognise the Ambassador’s special interest in Human Rights.
The Ambassador expressed interest in exploring opportunities for greater cooperation between the two countries to bolster the current administration’s drive for continued Economic growth.
The President was accompanied at the meeting by acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Health Hon. Irthisham Adam, Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer and Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
