President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to all Maldivians to renew, and put forward, the ambition to solidify the Islamic spirit within our hearts and to respect and uphold Islamic principles amongst the community. The President made the remark in his address to the nation on the occasion of the day the Maldives embraced Islam.
In his message, the President sent greetings on the auspicious occasion to all Maldivians stating that around eight hundred years ago today, the Maldivian people were blessed with the Islamic faith and guidance to walk the right path.
In his message, President Yameen emphasized that, since Maldives is an Islamic Nation, with the Maldivian constitution based on Islamic Law, it was a core tenant of the constitution that Islam be the religion of all Maldivians. The president therefore noted that the preservation of the country’s faith, and values, was a religious and national duty of all Maldivians.
President Yameen urged parents and guardians to put every effort into elevating the Islamic spirit within the hearts of our youngsters, and to give them an upbringing within Islamic principles, thereby building a more enlightened generation.
