Special Envoy of the President, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Dunya Maumoon has met with Speaker of Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla bin Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, who is currently visiting Maldives on the invitation of the Speaker of the People’s Majlis of Maldives. The meeting was held on Monday morning at the Peoples Majlis Office.
Speaking at the meeting, the Special Envoy highlighted 35 years of the good working relationship between both countries and expressed gratitude to the Saudi Government for the assistance provided on several infrastructure developments in the Maldives. She also noted that she was pleased to know of the establishment of a Saudi Mission in Maldives.
During the meeting, the Speaker of Shura Council said that they were currently working on establishing integrated, joint committees between the Maldives Parliament and the Saudi Arabian Shura Council. He said that the establishment of these committees would improve the relationship between the countries and further develop the current relationship. In conclusion, the Speaker of the Shura Council said that through these joint committees important work would be undertaken on matters of mutual interest like addressing and removing the threat of terrorism.
The Special Envoy of the President was accompanied at the meeting by the Foreign Secretary at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Fathimath Inaya.
