President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated “Dheenuge Adu”, a radio channel launched by Public Service Media (PSM). The inauguration was held at the President’s Office on Tuesday morning. The channel launched by PSM with the collaboration of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs aims to heighten religious awareness within the public.
Speaking at the launch function, Managing Director of PSM Mr. Ibrahim Khaleel stated that it was an honor to be able to launch an exclusive religious radio channel on the same day we were celebrating 53 years since the beginning of broadcasting in Maldives. He also added that Voice of Maldives was the most significant communications medium that has created awareness in different areas of society while also providing a source of education. In addition to this Mr. Khaleel stated that after the commencement of work from PSM, their main focus was to establish radio stations in different regions of the country; these stations would create more jobs for the youth, he said
Speaking at this function Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad stated that the launching of an exclusive religious channel would hinder work of those trying to break the religious unity that exists amongst Maldivians.
The function was attended by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad, Managing Director of PSM Mr. Ibrahim Khaleel, Ministers and senior staff members of PSM.
