First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim has today launched a child friendly version of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), and a special website for the Child Advocacy Network of Disability Organizations (CAN DO).
The CRPD handbook and the CAN DO website are two initiatives of the local NGO ARC, Advocating the Rights of Children.
Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady highlighted the importance of public awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities. She noted that being familiar with these rights was not only one’s civic responsibilities, but would also encourage working for these rights.
The CAN DO website is the country’s first website on disabilities. It contains detailed information on common types of disabilities in the Maldives, and the services available for persons with disabilities, from the respective Government authorities and the NGOs working in the field.
Today’s ceremony was attended by Minister of Health Hon. Irthisham Adam, and the President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives Ms. Aminath Eenas.
