President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom President has today ‎returned the Bill on Tourism Boycott (Bill no. 38/2015); ‎to the People’s Majlis for reconsideration.‎The Bill was passed by the Parliament at the 21st sitting of its third session, on 25th November 2015.

In a letter sent to the Speaker of the People’s Majlis returning the ‎Bill, the President detailed on the main issues ‎regarding the Bill. This includes several chapters in the Bill that leads to the restriction of certain fundamental rights like the freedom of expression and freedom of press, by prohibiting calling for the boycott of Maldives’ tourism in the country or abroad.
