The WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia, Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh, has presented the plaque certifying the Maldives as a malaria-free country. The plaque was received on behalf of the Maldives by Minister of Health Hon. Irthisham Adam, at the function held this morning to mark 50 years of Maldives’ membership of the WHO. The function was attended by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

In the citation presented to the Maldives with the plaque, WHO has commended the measures taken by the Maldives over three decades “to maintain strong epidemiological and entomological surveillance to sustain its malaria-free status.”
