President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that it is Maldivians who have the right to a decision, with regard to the domestic affairs of the country. The President made this statement while speaking at the official function held at Dharubaaruge on Tuesday evening, on the occasion of this year’s Republic Day.
Highlighting the fact that the Government of Maldives was a people’s Government, elected by the people, and with the people having the right to change it, President Yameen stated that Maldivians were capable of taking decisions for the nation, without outside assistance.
Speaking on the current political situation in the Maldives, the President said that the Government’s primary concerns lay with the nation’s interests, national security, and ensuring the people’s right to safety. He also said that the declaration or the lifting of the state of emergency, due to the recent events in the Maldives, has not affected the Government’s priorities.
In his speech, the President called for commitment in moving forward with the nation, despite any future threats. Continuing in this regard, the President assured that the Government was determined in accomplishing its goals. He said that this Government’s aspirations were of a more prosperous and wealthier Maldives. He also reiterated that the Government was steadfast in expanding economic development to all parts of the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President said that the Republic Day was a day proudly celebrated by the country, for its outstanding people; and expressed his gratitude to all the individuals who have contributed to building the nation, and taking the Maldives to where it is today. The President stated that our nation was made complete by the courage and audacity of its people.
In his speech, the President conveyed his congratulations, and expressed his appreciation to the individuals who received this year’s National Awards.
