Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor has said that a successful person is one who works hard with patience and discipline. He made this remark while speaking at the Colours Awards 2014 held on Wednesday evening. Colours Awards was introduced by the Ministry of Education, to recognise students’ high achievement in sporting activities.
Sharing his personal experiences, the Vice President said that one must be deliberate and determined to achieve the gold medal, as well as put in maximum effort to reach one’s goal. Highlighting the many life lessons he has learned in sports, the Vice President noted that tolerance of unfavourable circumstances was one important trait he practiced in sports, which was useful in all areas of life.
Continuing in this regard, the Vice President spoke on the significance of teamwork and trust; two qualities fostered through sports, that is applied in everyday life. In this regard, the Vice President noted that irrespective of one’s high academic attainment, one’s inability to work in a team at one’s job will lead to him being left out. The Vice President also underscored the need to teach students ethical values, so that they turn in to youth beneficial to the society.
In his speech, Vice President Adheeb congratulated all the students who won colours awards this evening, and encouraged them to compete at national and international levels. He also said that the Government gives high priority to facilitating more opportunities for students in sports.
The Vice President further reminded the students that it was important not to show arrogance in times of success. He advised to keep in mind that there was always the chance of losing despite one giving their best performance, and that one must be prepared for it, and strategize better next time.
Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor presented the Colours Awards 2014 for first place winners in the under 18 age group, and the award for the Best Student Athlete of 2014.
