President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has on Monday ratified the Health Services Bill, passed by the Parliament at the 27th sitting ‎of its second session, on 26th August 2015. Following ratification, the Act has been published in the Government Gazette.

The Health Services Bill was devised to establish a national mechanism for health services provided in the Maldives; to formulate rules and regulations for the advancement of health services in the country; to ensure the quality of health services provided in the Maldives; to formulate rules and guidelines for health service centers; to specify the code of conduct for the personnel working in the health sector, and the rights and responsibilities of health service providers and its recipients.

The main objective of the Health Services Act is to ensure that the health service centers, the system, and the facilities established by the Government are constant and consistent; and that the health services provided by a State or private institution are standardised, consistent, safe, and accessible services for all the citizens.
