President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of congratulations to the SriLankan President, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, following the parliamentary elections held on Monday.
The President’s message reads as follows:

The elections signify the strength of Sri Lanka’s democracy and the resilience of its institutions. The high voter turnout and the peaceful manner through which the elections unfolded is also a testament to your strong and capable leadership.
I look forward to continue working closely with you in further strengthening the longstanding ties of friendship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
