President Mohamed Nasheed has sent condolences Governor-General of Barbados Sir Clifford Husbands following the passing away of Prime Minister of Barbados David Thompson.
The President message of condolence to Governor-General Sir Clifford Husbands reads as follows:
I was deeply grieved to learn of the passing away of Prime Minister David Thompson. His distinguished services to the nation will no doubt be remembered.
Prime Minister Thompson had been a strong advocate for the interests of Small Island Developing States, especially on issues like climate change that need a lot more to be done. His death, therefore, is not only a great loss to the people of Barbados but also to all member states of the Alliance of Small Island States.
On this sad occasion of national grief, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in extending our profound sympathy to you, the Government and the people of Barbados. Please also convey our heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister David Thompson’s family.
