President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has been receiving greetings from Heads of State and leaders of foreign countries, on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of National Independence.

Messages of felicitations have been sent by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon; Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India; the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Naif Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia; Emperor Akihito, and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan.

In his message, the UNSG Ban Ki-moon noted that this year marked the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, and that it offered “a time for reflection, for renewing our commitment to our founding mission, and for redoubling our efforts towards peace, development and human rights for all.”

In the message sent by the Indian Prime Minister, he has noted that this year also marked the golden jubilee year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Maldives. “We attach the highest importance to our age-old ties between our people and close relations between our two countries.”

The King of Saudi Arabia, in his message, has commended the “distinguished brotherly relationships that prevail between our brotherly two countries and its development in all aspects.”
