President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim have this evening watched the military parade, and cultural display organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of National Independence. This evening's function was held at the National Football Stadium.
Upon their arrival at the stadium, the President and the First Lady were greeted by Minister of Home, Affairs Hon. Umar Naseer and his spouse.
The President was offered a presidential salute, following which the brass band of the Maldives National Defence Force, along with school bands, played the National Anthem.
Afterwards, the Maldives National Defence Force, Maldives Police Service, Maldives Correctional Service, and cadets from various schools performed the military parade, accompanied by the military band.
Thereafter, the Maldives National Defence Force, school students and volunteers took part in dance drills and cultural displays portraying the history of the Maldives and the story of its independence.
