The Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, His Excellency Nobuhito Hobo ‎ ‎has paid his farewell ‎call on ‎President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.‎

During the call, which took place at the President's Office this morning, the ‎President expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Hobo’s contribution to ‎strengthen the friendly ties that exist between the Maldives and Japan.‎

The President and the Ambassador also discussed ways to enhance ‎the long ‎existing bilateral relations between the two countries.‎ In this regard, President ‎Yameen and Ambassador Hobo underscored the ‎importance of opening a ‎Japanese Embassy in the Maldives to further ‎strengthen Maldives-Japan ‎relations. ‎

Mr. Hobo said that it was a great pleasure to serve the Maldives as Japanese ‎Ambassador to the Maldives, and reassured the President, of his ‎Government’s commitment to continue supporting and assisting the ‎Maldives.‎

The farewell call was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. ‎Dunya Maumoon, and Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed ‎Hussain Shareef.‎
