President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy ‎to the President of Tunisia, H.E. Beji Caïd Essebsi, following the killing and hostage-taking at the Bardo Museum.

The President’s message reads as follows:‎

“It was with deep shock and sadness that I learnt of the killing and hostage-taking of peaceful visitors at the Bardo Museum. The Government and people of the Maldives join me in condemning this cowardly act of terror in the strongest terms. I am confident that this heinous attack will not deter the Tunisian people from pursuing their aspirations to consolidate democracy in the country.”

“The Maldives stands firm in its commitment to supporting shared human values, and will continue to work closely with Tunisia and the international community as a whole in eliminating the scourge of terrorism.”

“During this period of grief, I would like to convey my heartfelt sympathy to the Government and brotherly people of Tunisia.”
