Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has appealed to all individuals elected to public offices, to be more considerate, benevolent and sincere when serving the people. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the function held on Thursday morning, to mark the fourth year of the decentralization system of the Maldives.
In his speech, the Vice President noted that the governance system in the Maldives has adapted to several changes with the implementation of the Decentralisation Act in 2010. He pointed out that the main objectives of decentralizing the administrative divisions of the Maldives was to allow the island communities to make their own decisions in a democratic and accountable manner, to empower the people, to bring the services closer to the people, and to create an environment conducive for peace and prosperity.
Vice President Jameel also noted that this year marked the 50th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence, and appealed to all Maldivians to be actively involved in celebrating this occasion.
