President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of greetings to the Maldivian people on the occasion of the country’s adherence to Islam.
In his message, President Yameen said that on the auspicious occasion, it was important to honour the memories of Abu al Barakat Youssef al-Barbari, who fostered the of dawn Islam in the Maldives, through the grace of Allah almighty.
In his message, President Yameen highlighted that the Islamic faith of the country was a blessing bestowed upon the country by Allah almighty. In this regard, he noted that the preservation of the country’s Islamic faith and values was the religious and national duty of all Maldivians.
President Yameen urged parents, guardians, and teachers, to put in every effort to boost the Islamic spirit in the hearts of young Maldivians, and to instil Islamic principles in their upbringing, in order to build a robust generation. Continuing in this regard, the President appealed to all relevant institutions to initiate religious programmes to promote the Islamic faith in the hearts of Maldivians.
