Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon and Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef have met with the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, as representatives of the Government of Maldives.

At the meeting, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister expressed his firm commitment to promote Maldives-Sri Lanka ties, and assured of his continued support for Maldives at international forums. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also agreed to make an official visit to the Maldives at an early mutually convenient time.

At the meeting, discussions were held on the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister also confirmed that health and education would be key areas of cooperation between the two countries. Further, he invited President Yameen to be the first Head of State to visit Sri Lanka under the new administration.
