Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has returned this afternoon, after concluding his visit to New York to represent the Maldives in the General Debate of the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In his address to the UN General Assembly, the Vice President called for a speedy disbursement of the aid pledged at the Maldives Donor Conference, held March of his year.

The Vice President also addressed the UN Millenium Development Goals Summit, calling for a formal and transparent Small Island Developing States (SIDS) category within the UN.

In addition, the Vice President met with other leaders who were visiting New York to attend the UN General Assembly, including the President of Poland and German Chancellor. He also lectured at Yale University on climate change.

Speaking with the press, on arrival, at the Official Jetty of Malé, the Vice President said during the visit, he advocated for more support from developed countries for the small developing nations such as the Maldives.
