Civil service pay can be restored before the end of this year – President Nasheed
30 September 2010, Ref: 2010-710
Speaking in Lhaviyani Naifaru last evening, President Mohamed Nasheed has revealed that the government could restore the civil service salaries to the previous level before the end of this year.
In 2009, the government reduced the salaries of civil servants by 15 percent as a result of the economic downturn, promising restoration of salaries when the government revenue reached Rf 7 billion mark.
In his address to the people of Naifaru, the President said the government was hopeful reaching the goal of Rf 7 billion mark before the end of this year.
Therefore, he expressed his hope that civil service pay could be restored to the level they were before the reduction of 15 percent.
Noting that the government was able to achieve its target with the support of civil servants, he thanked all civil servants for the great sacrifice they made.
