President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated ‘Hadhunmathi bodu-magu’ road development project. The inauguration ceremony was held on Monday evening at Fonadhoo of Laamu atoll.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Yameen stated that the road development project was integral to realising the developmental aspirations of the atoll. In this regard, the President highlighted that the government has high hopes for the atoll.
Underlining the Government plans for development of Laamu atoll, President Yameen noted that atoll has been identified as one of the strategic locations to be developed as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Continuing on, the President especially emphasised the Thumburi integrated resort development project that was to be undertaken in Laamu atoll.
Describing public peace and security as the key ingredient for the success of the nation’s economic objectives, President Yameen highlighted the importance of ensuring a safe and stable environment to attract foreign investors in to the country. Within this context, President Yameen stated that the bill on Prohibiting Threatening and Possession of Dangerous Weapons and Sharp Objects passed by the Parliament earlier that day will facilitate the achievement of this goal.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Yameen highlighted that the Chinese assistance to the road project was symbolic of the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
