President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has this afternoon inaugurated the ‎Fishermen’s Marina in Felivaru. ‎

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the President highlighted that the ‎inauguration of the Marina represented a significant achievement for his ‎Administration, as it was a key pledge in the Government’s manifesto. In this ‎regard, President Yameen stated that the Fishermen’s Marina in Felivaru, which is ‎the first of its kind in the Maldives, would deliver essential services and greatly ‎assist fishermen in the area.‎

Emphasizing his Administration’s commitment to developing young Maldivian ‎professionals in various sectors, the President noted that the inauguration of the ‎Felivaru Fishermen’s Marina would support the Government’s efforts to encourage ‎more young people to enter the fisheries industry. The President also underlined ‎that that recreational activities and mechanisms to garner the interest of youth ‎towards the fisheries sector would be set-up at the Marina. ‎

Continuing on, President Yameen asserted that the Government firmly believes that ‎the key to further developing the fisheries industry in the Maldives is to establish ‎safety nets for fishermen and their families to depend on during the off-peak ‎seasons. Within this context, the President called on all fishermen to register their ‎vessels under the Government’s insurance scheme for fishermen, without delay. ‎
