President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has this afternoon inaugurated the Fishermen’s Marina in Felivaru.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the President highlighted that the inauguration of the Marina represented a significant achievement for his Administration, as it was a key pledge in the Government’s manifesto. In this regard, President Yameen stated that the Fishermen’s Marina in Felivaru, which is the first of its kind in the Maldives, would deliver essential services and greatly assist fishermen in the area.
Emphasizing his Administration’s commitment to developing young Maldivian professionals in various sectors, the President noted that the inauguration of the Felivaru Fishermen’s Marina would support the Government’s efforts to encourage more young people to enter the fisheries industry. The President also underlined that that recreational activities and mechanisms to garner the interest of youth towards the fisheries sector would be set-up at the Marina.
Continuing on, President Yameen asserted that the Government firmly believes that the key to further developing the fisheries industry in the Maldives is to establish safety nets for fishermen and their families to depend on during the off-peak seasons. Within this context, the President called on all fishermen to register their vessels under the Government’s insurance scheme for fishermen, without delay.
