President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has launched ‘Get Set’, the Maldives Youth Entrepreneurship Program (MYEP) .The program was launched at the official function held on Monday evening to mark the National Youth Day.
The $200 million rufiyaa program was launched as a Government initiative to encourage entrepreneurship among youth and foster development of small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s). Two individuals may jointly apply for loans to start up their businesses under this scheme. The recipients of the scheme will be granted soft loans, along with the required technical assistances through business incubation programs.
At the official function held to commemorate the National Youth Day, President Yameen also presented the National Youth Awards for the year 2013 and 2014. The National Youth Awards 2013 were presented to 9 individuals and two NGO’s for their outstanding accomplishments in the areas of sports, journalism, Dhivehi linguistics, events management, fashion design and social service.
The National Youth Awards 2014 was presented to 4 individuals and two NGO’s for their outstanding accomplishments in the areas of sports, creative writing and social service.
