Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has departed for New York to attend the General Debate of the 65th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is accompanied by his wife Ilham Hussain.

In addition to addressing the 65th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Vice President will represent the Maldives in a discussion on climate change and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) hosted by the German Chancellor for heads of delegations of Alliance of Small Island States. He will also attend a side event on MDGs hosted by Nepal for the leaders of Least Developed Countries.

The Vice President is also scheduled to speak at Yale University and hold bilateral meetings with other heads of state and government of neighbouring countries and other friendly nations.

The Vice President is also accompanied by Special Envoy of the President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, Minister of Health and Family Dr Aminath Jameel and Minister of Housing and Environment Mohamed Aslam.
