The Prosecutor General of Russia, H.E. Yury Yakovlevich Chakya, has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office Thursday morning, discussions were focused on further strengthening the bilateral relations between the Maldives and Russia.
President Yameen expressed his gratitude to the Russian Government for their continuous support and assistance to the Maldives. Highlighting that the Prosecutor General was an autonomous entity, under the new constitution of the Maldives, President Yameen underscored the high priority accorded by the Government to strengthen all independent institutions of the country. In this regard, the President noted the importance of human resource building in all sectors. He also expressed his confidence that the Russian PG’s visit would be beneficial to Maldivian prosecutors.
At the meeting, Mr. Chakya assured the President of Russia’s continuous support to the Maldives, and enquired on the Maldivian Government’s priority areas. He also discussed with the President, on providing training opportunities for Maldivian prosecutors at the Academy of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.
Further, the Russian Prosecutor General briefed the President on the various tasks undertaken by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, apart from criminal proceedings. He noted that the institution was keen to provide consultancy services to the Maldives.
The meeting was attended by Prosecutor General, Uz. Muhthaz Muhsin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, and Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
