President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has extended greetings to the people of the Maldives on the occasion of the country’s Victory Day.

In his message, the President said that the key to victory in the November 3rd terrorist attack was unity and harmony among the Maldivian people. He said that as we commemorate our Victory Day, the people of Maldives have not forgotten that the November 3rd mercenary attack and previous attempts at destroying the country’s independence were due to treason of a few treacherous Maldivians. He said that there were important lessons to be learnt from such experiences, and urged all Maldivians to be strong Muslims and be sincere and faithful to this nation.

The President noted that, with the Grace of Almighty Allah, the Maldives, its national security forces and the people had emerged victorious on that day; and offered his gratitude and praise to the brave soldiers and members of the general public who fought for the independence, sovereignty and security of the country.

President Yameen, in his message, called on all citizens to live in peace and harmony, and to stay away from irreligious and disruptive influences. He also urged all Maldivians to work together to foster the spirit of cooperation, and defend our sovereignty.
