Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that the underprivileged population of the society, those individuals with special needs, and those deprived of social security must not be regarded as a burden. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the launching ceremony of the special services and programmes of the Ministry of Law and Gender, Monday evening.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the National Art Gallery, the Vice President noted that Islamic principles and values obligated us to ensure the rights of women, children, senior citizens, the underprivileged, and those with special needs.
In his speech, the Vice President said that the inauguration of the new programmes was an important step in realizing the Maldives’ aspirations of becoming a more civilized and moral society. He also stated that the country’s goal today was to become an example of a united, compassionate society that advocates human rights.
Further, the Vice President highlighted the numerous programmes initiated by President Yameen’s administration to ensure the rights of children, senior citizens, and those with special needs.
