President Mohamed Nasheed has this afternoon visited Gulheefalhu, a shallow lagoon North West of Malé that is being reclaimed to develop a commercial zone.

During his visit to Queen of the Netherlands, one of the largest dredging ships in the world that is being used by Royal Boskalis Westminster to reclaim land at Gulheefalhu, the President was briefed on the first phase of the Gulheefalhu development project.

10 hectares of land is to be reclaimed from Gulheefalhu in the first phase of the project. Reclaimed land will be developed to include an industrial zone, port facilities, modern storage and warehouse facilities.
