The President of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Xi Jinping and First Lady Madam Peng Liyuan are scheduled to conduct a State Visit to the Maldives next week, at the invitation of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
President Xi will be accompanied during the State Visit by a senior delegation of Chinese Government officials.
During his stay in the Maldives, President Xi will be officially meeting President Yameen one-on-one. The two leaders will chair Official Talks between high level delegations of the respective countries.
The programme also includes the signing of a number of bilateral agreements on advancing developmental corporation in various identified fields. Furthermore, two development projects in the Maldives that are funded by the Chinese Government and implemented by Chinese corporations will also be launched jointly by the two presidents.
In addition to the official meeting between the two Heads of State, President Xi will also be meeting with Former President, H. E. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Hon. Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed.
The invitation for President Xi to visit the Maldives was extended at the Official Talks held in Nanjing, China, during President Yameen’s official visit to the country last month.
President Xi will be the first Chinese Head of State to conduct a state visit to the Maldives.
