President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has presented the ‘Ran Laari Awards 2013’, at a ceremony held on Monday evening at Dharubaaruge to celebrate the fourth year anniversary function of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). The 'Ran Laari Awards 2013' was introduced by MIRA in recognition of taxpayers who pay the highest amount as taxes.
Highlighting that economic transformation was key to realising the developmental aspirations of the people, President Yameen underscored his Government’s agenda to steer the country towards a new economic frontier. In this regard, the President noted that the implementation of the planned mega projects of the Government would expand the tax base of the country, which in turn would lead to an increase in tax revenue.
Speaking at the function, President Yameen underscored the Government endeavour to establish a more favourable economic climate in the Maldives. Describing youth as the source of energy that drove the economy, the President emphasised the high priority attached by the Government to youth empowerment.
In his speech, President Yameen reiterated the Government commitment to uphold and safeguard the independence and sovereignty of the country, in its endeavours to promote socioeconomic development and raise the living standards of the people.
At the function, the Annual report, Strategic Plan and the Tax Payer Charter of MIRA was unveiled.
