President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka will arrive in the Maldives on Wednesday, 25th June, on a State Visit. The Sri Lankan President is to make this State Visit at the invitation of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, extended earlier this year during his State Visit to Sri Lanka.
President Rajapaksa will be accompanied by an official delegation comprising of Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament and other senior Sri Lankan government officials. During his visit to the Maldives, President Rajapaksa is scheduled to meet with President Yameen to discuss bilateral ties between the two countries. High level talks will be held at the President’s Office between delegations of both countries. President Yameen will also host a state banquet in honour of the President and First Lady of Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan President is the first Head of State, or Head of Government, to make a State Visit to the Maldives since the assumption of presidential office by President Yameen.
