President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to President M.D. Abdul Hamid of Bangladesh, following the sinking of a ferry boat in Meghna River.
The President’s message read as follows;
“It is with sorrow and dismay that I learnt of the tragic incident of a passenger ferry capsizing in the Meghna River, causing the loss of many innocent lives and injury to hundreds of people. While the search for survivors continues, we pray that, of those that remain unaccounted for so far, more victims can be saved.”
“At this time of tragedy, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in conveying our profound sympathy to Your Excellency, the Government and the brotherly people of Bangladesh, particularly the families of the bereaved, and offer prayers to those who have been injured in this catastrophe. I wish the recovery efforts every success and commend the tenacity of the Bangladeshi people in the face of such tragedy.”
“I am confident that with the characteristic courage and fortitude of your people, they will be able to find the solace to overcome their sorrow. The Government and the people of the Maldives stand in solidarity with you, and the people of Bangladesh, in coming to terms with this tragedy.”
