President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a congratulatory message to Shri Narendra Modi, following Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in India’s general elections.
The President’s message read as follows;
“On behalf of the Government and people of Maldives, I would like to congratulate you and the BJP-led alliance on the victory in the Lok Sabha elections.”
“We are elated and have no doubt that India has chosen the most proficient leadership to enter a new era under BJP’s leadership; and wish you and the citizens of India every success and prosperity.”
“The Maldives attaches the highest importance to its relations with India. As close neighbours with a unique relationship and deep links across all walks of life, our relations are closely intertwined. I therefore remain confident that cooperation between the Maldives and India will further develop under your leadership and guidance in a constructive manner. We look forward to working with you and your colleagues to further enhance our cooperation for the benefit of the people of both our countries.”
