Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has appealed all Maldivians to support the victims of floods in Pakistan.

Recent flooding in Pakistan, that was unprecedented in the country’s history has left many dead and affected more than 30 million people.

The Vice President made the appeal during a visit to the Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives this afternoon to express his sympathy for the people and show solidarity with the people affected in the tragedy. The Vice President was accompanied by his wife Ilham Hussain during the visit.

Speaking at the Pakistan High Commission, the Vice President noted that millions of Pakistani Muslims were desolated and left without food and clean drinking water during this Ramadan. He said it was important for all Maldivians to show solidarity with the brotherly people of Pakistan and give whatever support they could to those affected.

In his meeting with Pakistani High Commissioner to the Maldives Mr Akhtar Ali Sulehri, the Vice President said no country could face such a widespread devastation alone and expressed hope that the international community would support Pakistan in this time of distress.

During the visit, Vice President Dr Waheed and Madam Ilham Hussain made a donation to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund, set up to support those who are affected.
